Swiss Voters Say No to Stricter Neutrality Rule

Swiss voters rejected a stricter neutrality rule on 27 September 2026, an SRG/GFS Bern election-day estimate showed, by about 71% to 29%. The 'Safeguard Swiss neutrality' plan would have written into Switzerland's basic law that the country stays neutral always and keeps an army to defend itself. The government, parliament and nearly all major parties opposed it.
