Dunedin councillor plans to run for Parliament on his own

Dunedin councillor Benedict Ong plans to run for Parliament in the Dunedin area at the election on 7 November, without joining a party. He shared the plan in a Facebook post, saying he wants to do more for his hometown. Ong said bans and political attacks, which he called wrongful, stopped him moving the city forward as a councillor.
