Pakistan to Close Roads to Capital Before Protest for Jailed Former Leader

Islamabad police said Sept. 23 they will shut the Islamabad-Peshawar and Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan highways and Grand Trunk Road at several spots that evening, like closing gates to a city. Police say it is to keep supporters of former prime minister Imran Khan, in jail since August 2023, from entering the capital for a Sept. 27 protest seeking his release.
