Claude Discovers New CRISPR-Related Enzyme in Bacteria Viruses

Anthropic says Claude on its own identified a previously unknown enzyme system tied to CRISPR gene-editing machinery in bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria. Announced Sept. 23, it is the first result from Anthropic's new wet lab for biology experiments. Claude found the pattern in a DNA database; scientists provided the initial prompt and did the lab work. Function remains unknown.
