Volcano Eruption Closes Eight Airports Across Indonesia

Anak Krakatau, a volcano in Indonesia, erupted on 5–6 September 2026, throwing ash high into the sky. Ash is dangerous for planes because it can ruin their engines. So Indonesia closed eight airports, including Jakarta's main one. Booming sounds were heard 700 km away. Over 22,000 passengers were stranded and 209 flights were cancelled to cities like Singapore and Sydney.
