Major Earthquake Hits Near Indonesia, Sparking Tsunami Warning
A powerful earthquake struck near Ende, Indonesia, on August 14. The shaking measured 7.7 — strong enough to cause serious damage. Indonesia's weather agency warned that a tsunami, a giant ocean wave caused by undersea shaking, could hit nearby coasts and told residents to move to higher ground. Two smaller quakes followed. Australia said it faced no threat. No casualties were reported yet.
