Putin Visits Island Japan Says Is Japanese; Japan Objects

Russian President Putin visited Iturup, a Pacific island both Russia and Japan say belongs to them, Russian media reported. Japan's foreign minister Toshimitsu Motegi said the islands are Japanese and protested the visit. The disagreement has kept the two countries from signing a peace treaty to officially end World War Two — for over 80 years.
