Burnham pauses September early prison release scheme pending urgent review
Andy Burnham has instructed his team to pause early prison release changes due in September, the BBC reported. No prisoners will be released until an urgent review is conducted and "everything possible is done to minimise risk to the public," Burnham said. The scheme, easing overcrowding in England and Wales jails, freed prisoners after serving half their sentence. Burnham is working with the new justice secretary.
