Tunisia's Ghannouchi, 85, faints in 52°C prison cell

Rached Ghannouchi, 85, jailed Tunisian opposition leader and Ennahda chief, fainted in Mornaguia prison as cell-block temperatures hit 52°C (126°F). Eyewitness Haifa Chebbi reported detainees are held in 16-square-metre cells with two hours daily outside. Ghannouchi, sentenced to life in June 2026, was previously hospitalized in April. The UN has flagged Tunisia's trials of opposition figures for fair-trial violations.
