French students vow to continue school protests despite government pledges

French high school students blockaded schools and marched in Lille, Rennes, Nantes, Lyon, Toulon, Marseille and Paris on Oct. 8, 2026, vowing to continue after 10 days of protests over teacher shortages, crowded classes and dilapidated buildings. Union leader Ryad Rani said protesters heard no concrete measures despite government pledges.
