U.N. Council Extends Sudan Fact-Finding Mission Despite Sudan's Opposition
On Oct. 6, 2026, the 47-member U.N. Human Rights Council extended its independent international fact-finding mission for Sudan. The resolution passed 28 to 10 with nine abstentions, demanded an immediate, complete ceasefire without preconditions, and called for monitoring and infrastructure restoration. Sudan urged rejection, saying its reservations were ignored. The army–Rapid Support Forces war began in April 2023.
