U.N. Rights Council Renews Sudan Inquiry Over Sudan's Objections
On Oct. 6, 2026, the 47-member U.N. Human Rights Council voted 28-10, with nine abstentions, to extend its independent fact-finding mission for Sudan, investigators documenting abuses. The resolution demands an immediate, unconditional ceasefire, plus monitoring and rebuilding basic services. Sudan opposed it, saying its concerns were ignored. The army-Rapid Support Forces war started in April 2023.
