DOJ Says It Won't Reopen Criminal Probe of Ex-Fed Chair Powell

On Oct. 2, 2026, the Justice Department said it is not reopening a criminal investigation into former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over cost overruns on the Fed's building renovation. Attorney General Todd Blanche has not ruled out future action if evidence of wrongdoing emerges. Powell stepped down as chair in May but remains a Fed governor.
