10-year Treasury yield tops 5.27%, a 19-year high

Reuters reported the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield topped 5.27% on Sept. 29, a 19-year high. It is up nearly 50 basis points — hundredths of a percentage point — through September. I see this as the number to watch for savers and borrowers, because moves here tend to push up mortgages and other loan rates.
