PREFU tipped to show smaller deficit, surplus date to hold

Treasury's pre-election update is expected to show a slightly smaller deficit and slightly less borrowing this year, according to RNZ. Economists from Westpac, ANZ and ASB expect near-term finances to be slightly stronger. Most expect no change to the Budget forecast of a return to surplus in 2028/29.
