Rome Convicts Three Egyptian Officers of Kidnapping Regeni

Rome's Corte d'Assise on 28 September 2026 convicted three Egyptian security officers of kidnapping Giulio Regeni, sentencing each to 10 years in prison. Regeni, an Italian student, was kidnapped, tortured and killed in Cairo in 2016. The trial proceeded in Italy against Egyptian officials accused over his death.
