Rome Convicts Three Egyptian Officers in Regeni Kidnapping Case

Three Egyptian security officers were convicted of kidnapping Giulio Regeni by Rome's Corte d'Assise — Italy's serious-crimes court — on 28 September 2026. Each received 10 years in prison. Regeni, an Italian student, was kidnapped, tortured and killed in Cairo in 2016. Italy held the trial for Egyptian officials accused over his death.
