Trump administration asks Supreme Court to overturn release of Georgetown scholar Badar Khan Suri

The Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse the May 2025 release of Georgetown fellow Badar Khan Suri, an Indian citizen arrested by ICE outside his Virginia home in March 2025. The Justice Department argues federal immigration law barred the district judge from ordering release, a procedural fight over which courts can decide detention.
