MPs would have to justify skipping select committee under proposed changes

The Standing Orders Committee has proposed requiring ministers and MPs to explain to the House why a bill is skipping select committee or having its time there cut short. Leader of the House Louise Upston said she whole-heartedly supported the move. Labour leader Chris Hipkins said it was good but should go further.
