US hits Australian exports with 12.5% tariff over forced-labour claims

From July 24, Australian goods heading to the US cop a 12.5% tariff — a penalty Washington is applying to 54 countries it says lack proper forced-labour import bans. We're in company with China, Russia, Israel, Japan and New Zealand. Trade Minister Don Farrell calls it unjustified and inconsistent with our free-trade agreement; Richard Marles says it "makes no sense."
