Amazon Adopts Anthropic's MCP Standard for Alexa Plus Integrations

Amazon will use Anthropic's open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) to expand Alexa Plus integrations, announced July 23, 2026. MCP gives AI models a standard way to connect to external tools and services. The move gives MCP its largest consumer deployment, replacing custom Alexa skills with a shared protocol that cuts connection costs for device makers.
