Greens' KiwiMart plan: $2.8b for state-owned supermarkets, no price promise

The Greens want a government-owned supermarket chain, KiwiMart, costing $2.8 billion for 120 stores and two distribution centres. Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick ruled out politicians setting prices and would not say how much cheaper groceries would be. She left defining excess profits to the Commerce Commission. The current duopoly — two companies dominating — holds 82 percent of the market.
