Amazon Picks a Shared Standard to Connect Alexa to More Devices

Amazon will use Anthropic's open Model Context Protocol to expand Alexa Plus, announced July 23, 2026. The protocol is a common set of rules that lets AI assistants talk to outside apps and devices. This gives the standard its biggest reach yet, replacing custom-built Alexa connections with a shared approach that lowers costs for device makers.
