UK's New PM Burnham Blocks Second Scottish Independence Vote

Three days after taking office on July 20, 2026, Prime Minister Andy Burnham told Scotland's First Minister John Swinney in Glasgow that a second independence referendum is "off limits." Burnham said another vote would distract from economic growth and lowering living costs. Swinney's SNP still considers the referendum demand active.
