UK government apologises to Ukrainian child refugees told to study Russian at school
Schools minister Georgia Gould apologised to Ukrainian child refugees who were told to study Russian in English schools. At St Mary's school in west London, she announced a Ukrainian GCSE, a national school exam due in England in 2028. Ukraine's education ministry wrote in 2024 that school staff pressured many Ukrainian children to take Russian as no Ukrainian GCSE existed.
