Sheffield scientists recreate colour-changing effect of Roman Lycurgus Cup

Scientists at the University of Sheffield in England have recreated the colour-changing effect of the Lycurgus Cup, a fourth-century AD Roman cup in the British Museum in London. They embedded gold and silver nanoparticles, particles measured in billionths of a metre, in glass. The cup looks green in ordinary light and glows red when lit from behind, ArtNews reported.
