Tenzing's climbing scenes were shot on real New Zealand mountains, not green screens

The climbing scenes in Tenzing, a film about the 1953 first ascent of Mount Everest, were shot on real mountains in New Zealand's Southern Alps during winter, director Jennifer Peedom told Deadline. Helicopter-only access kept crews small and shooting days short. Guide Guy Cotter, a five-time Everest climber, helped find stand-ins for the Khumbu Icefall and summit.
