Birthkeeper could be referred to prosecutors over Victorian woman's death

A Victorian coroner has heard that Emily Lal, a non-medical birthkeeper, could be referred to prosecutors over potential criminal charges. The inquest concerns Stacey Warnecke, 30, who died in September 2025 of severe bleeding after birth at home, with Lal by her side. Lal told the court she was not clinically trained.
