French Assembly Speaker Proposes Inquiry into 17 October Riots

National Assembly president Yaël Braun-Pivet has proposed a parliamentary inquiry, an investigation led by lawmakers, into the riots that broke out across France on 17 October and how they were organised. The National Assembly is France's lower house. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has blamed the hard left; Jean-Luc Mélenchon's La France Insoumise denies any link.
