Independent MP Helen Haines loses a leg after alleged vehicle attack in Wangaratta

Brendan Nugent, 43, appeared in Wangaratta court charged over an alleged attack on independent MP Helen Haines outside her electorate office. Police say a Toyota LandCruiser struck her, and she lost a leg. Doctors at Melbourne's Alfred hospital are working to save her other leg; she is in critical but stable condition. Nugent did not seek bail.
