Court Overturns Block on NSW Gold Mine Waste Dam

A judge voided a 2024 order by former environment minister Tanya Plibersek that stopped Regis Resources building a tailings dam — a waste-storage dam — for its McPhillamys gold mine at Blayney, NSW. Justice James Stellios found the order, made under section 10 of Indigenous heritage law to protect the Belubula River headwaters, invalid after Regis challenged it.
