
Four-Hour Batteries Beat Gas Peakers on Cost Worldwide
Batteries that store power for four hours now cost less than gas peaker plants, used only at peak demand, in all 43 markets Wood Mackenzie surveyed across every continent. Solar remains the cheapest new power source. The firm expects batteries to keep getting cheaper as gas peaking gets pricier, running 33% cheaper in the Middle East and Africa by 2035.
