Florida Judge Allows $225 Million Torture Case Against Alleged Savak Leader to Proceed
A Florida judge refused to dismiss a $225 million lawsuit against Parviz Sabeti, alleged former head of the shah's Savak secret police. Three former Iranian political prisoners accuse him of torture in Tehran prisons and sued under the Torture Victim Protection Act, a U.S. law allowing such claims. Judge Gregory A. Presnell ruled the case can proceed. Sabeti denies involvement.
