Indefinite teen sentences quashed after 20 years in prison
Luke Ings and Liam Bennett, jailed at 17 with minimum terms of 21 and 24 months, were freed at 38 with no further supervision. Wolverhampton Crown Court quashed their indefinite sentences, finding no proper basis for dangerousness. They held imprisonment for public protection (IPP) sentences — open-ended terms introduced in 2005, abolished in 2012 without freeing existing prisoners.
