Hydro halves output at giant Alunorte alumina plant on gas shortfall

Norsk Hydro cut output at Brazil's Alunorte refinery to half capacity in August 2026, it said, after gas supplier CELBA — part of New Fortress Group — warned of supply disruptions. Hydro says the cost is still unclear. Alunorte is the world's largest alumina plant, supplying low-carbon raw material for Hydro's aluminium smelters.
