Tesla adds emergency drive-away override for charging lock in US

Tesla has introduced an emergency drive away mode in the US via software update. Shifting into drive while charging triggers a confirmation alert, then permits departure with the cable attached. The charging handle breaks away and falls to the ground, damaging vehicle and handle. Normally the plug locks and driving is disabled until release.
