National proposes Commerce Act review of lines company charges

National would review Commerce Act rules that cap what lines companies – the firms that own the poles and wires – can charge. Energy spokesperson Simeon Brown said lines charges make up about two-thirds of the rise in average power bills. Its Electrify NZ 2.0 plan says the Commerce Commission last set that cap in November 2024, until 2030.
