Carney announces new money to protect oceans, first step in bigger plan

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $1.2-billion in new money to protect Canada's oceans in North Vancouver on Sept. 29. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the federal department responsible, confirmed the money is new. Ottawa says this is the first part of a national ocean plan. Parts on guarding waters and growing the ocean economy will follow.
