Trump administration asks Supreme Court to pause transgender prison care during appeal

The Trump administration wants federal prisons to pause gender-affirming care — medical treatment supporting a transgender person's gender identity — while courts decide its legality. Solicitor General D. John Sauer made the emergency appeal to the Supreme Court Sept. 28, after two lower courts blocked the January 2025 executive order. The Court asked inmates' lawyers to reply by Oct. 8.
