South West Water Gets Record £7.8m Fine for Sewage Pollution

South West Water was fined £7,867,733 at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on 29 September after admitting 18 sewage pollution offences in Cornwall and Devon. The Environment Agency brought the case, the region's largest environmental penalty. The judge cited reckless management failures. The company says it is spending £760m to cut storm overflows, outlets that spill sewage in heavy rain.
