South West Water fined £7.8m in region's largest environmental penalty

South West Water was fined £7,867,733 at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on 29 September after pleading guilty to 18 sewage pollution charges in Cornwall and Devon, the largest environmental fine in the region. The Environment Agency led the prosecution. The judge cited reckless management failures. The company says it is investing £760m to cut storm overflows.
