Malaysia Begins Voluntary Return of 1,500 Rohingya to Myanmar

Malaysia started sending nearly 1,500 Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar on Sept. 29, 2026, saying they agreed to go. It is the first step in a deal where Myanmar will take back 5,000 people, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in July. Malaysia hosted over 126,144 Rohingya as of February.
