Malaysia begins voluntary return of 1,500 Rohingya to Myanmar

Malaysia began returning nearly 1,500 Rohingya refugees to Myanmar on September 29, 2026, describing the operation as voluntary. It is the first phase of a plan under which Myanmar agreed to accept 5,000 Rohingya, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in July. Malaysia hosted more than 126,144 Rohingya as of February.
