10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.27%, a 19-year high

Above 5.27% on Sept. 29, 2026, the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield rose nearly 50 basis points in September, Reuters reported, a 19-year high. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point. Higher long-term yields tend to push up mortgage and business borrowing costs. In my view, the speed of that climb is the pressure to watch.
