NSW to spend $47.1m reopening Silverwater prison wing

NSW will spend $47.1 million to reopen the 515-bed Dawn de Loas centre at Silverwater in early 2027, the government announced 28 September 2026. Combined with extra fast-tracked beds at Parklea, the government says total prison capacity would grow by nearly 1,000. Premier Chris Minns said the expansion was needed to keep the public safe.
