Drumcree parade blocked despite first approval since 1998

Hundreds of nationalist protesters blocked Garvaghy Road in Portadown on 27 September, halting an Orange Order Drumcree march cleared by the Parades Commission — the body that rules on contentious marches — for the first time since 1998. Marchers waited at Drumcree Church as police warned of arrests. Most protesters left early 28 September before talks with officials.
