Mighty Sparrow, calypso king of the world, dies at 91

Slinger Francisco, known as Mighty Sparrow and called the 'calypso king of the world,' died in New York on 27 September 2026 at 91. His family said he was surrounded by family after a brief illness. Born in Grenada, he moved to Trinidad and Tobago in 1937 and recorded hundreds of calypso — story-driven songs — across six decades.
