Italy bans face-covering veils in schools

Italy’s government has approved a ban on the burqa and niqab — garments that cover the face — in schools. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said “You must go to school with your face uncovered.” The hijab, a headscarf that leaves the face visible, remains allowed. Meloni called them “common-sense tools” to help integrate, not divide.
