Mayors say council merger delay came without warning

Mayors say they had no warning the Government would delay decisions on merging councils until after the election. Porirua Mayor Anita Baker said there was no sign of it at a Monday Zoom meeting with Local Government New Zealand, the councils' group, and Minister Simon Watts. Watts said the decision was made after ministers met as Cabinet on Monday.
