Mayors say council amalgamation delay came without warning

Mayors say the Government's delay to council amalgamation decisions until after the election was completely unexpected. Porirua Mayor Anita Baker said there was no indication of it at a Zoom meeting with Local Government New Zealand and minister Simon Watts on Monday. Watts said the decision was made after Cabinet on Monday.
